The Recess Standing Desk · 7 reasons
7 reasons 172 owners rate this desk 4.9 out of 5
This desk comes in two sizes, six tops and three frames, from $895 to $1,145. The reasons below start with the measurement to take before you order, and the thing everyone worries about most: whether it stays steady once it is up.
1REASON
Start with the wall, not the spec sheet
This is the decision people get wrong, and it is the one that is hard to undo. Measure the wall or the nook first, then pick the size that fits it. Everything else is finish.
120 × 70cm
For a nook, a spare room or an apartment
Standing Desk, Small
From $895120cm wide and 70cm deep. Enough for a laptop, a monitor and room to write beside them, without taking over the room it lives in. It is the one to pick if the room is the constraint.
What sits on it comfortably
"… I chose the smaller version because I live in an apartment, and it fits perfectly in my space. It allowed me to create a professional workstation without taking up too much room." Ilaria G. · Small, Maple top, White frame · ✓ Verified buyer, recess.com.au
Then pick your top
Six tops, all in the Small size. The first three have a colour-matched edge; the last three have a faux plywood edge and add $50.

White$895 →Colour-matched edge
Walnut$895 →Colour-matched edge
Whitewash$945 →Faux plywood edge
Blackout$945 →Faux plywood edge

Frames come in White, Black or Forest Green. White and Black are included; Forest Green adds $100. You pick the frame on the product page, and every link here opens with your size and top already selected.

Steel frame, three-stage columns, levelling feet
Wobble at standing height is the failure mode people quit sit-stand desks over, so it is the first thing to check. Ours runs three-stage columns on a steel frame with levelling feet for uneven floors, and lifts up to 125kg. Put your elbows on it at full height and lean, which is the only test that settles it.
"Looks incredible, runs smoothly, and is a lot more stable than i thought it would be on carpet. Couldnt be happier."

Lifts to 130cm, quietly enough to do it mid meeting
Set your sitting height and your standing height once, then each is one button. Four memory presets, 40mm per second, dual motors. Reviewers keep describing it as quiet, including one who changes height during meetings.
"… It's quiet when changing to standing, which is helpful during meetings. It makes our workspace feel luxe, which is great since we're there all the time. I much prefer working at home now!"
Kate B. · Large, Walnut top, Black frame · ✓ Verified buyer, recess.com.au
"Absolutely love my new stand desk, so much more room to study and the ability to change desk heights at the click of a button is a real game changer"

On the low end, we will let a customer answer
Our own spec sheet lists the minimum height two different ways, so rather than pick the flattering one, here is a buyer who measured his own desk. If a low sitting height is the reason you are shopping, measure your current desk first and compare.
"This is my third stand up desk in my quest to find the one and I need look no further. I was after a desk than goes below 69cm when sitting and that was extremely hard to find. This desk does that although it states the lowest as 65cm but that seems to be without the top attached as mine only goes to 66.7 cm but its perfect for my short legs ( i'm 168cm tall). The quality of the product is outstanding for the price and so good I ordered another 2 for the rest of the household."

"This is a brilliant desk. Solid, very well made, and looks fantastic with the green legs and walnut top. I really like the sustainability focus of the company. I also like that the company and the Recess products are not mass market. The sales team at Recess could not have been more helpful and friendly. I booked the installation service, and the installation team were professional and friendly."

Two cartons, seven steps, roughly an hour to build
It arrives in two cartons: the frame at 33kg and the top at 16kg for the Small or 23kg for the Large. Seven steps, roughly 45 to 60 minutes, tools included, instructions online. Reviewers tell us the instructions are clear and the packing is minimal.
If you would rather not, customers in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide can add our Sit Back and Relax service at checkout, and we deliver, assemble and take the packaging away.

Limited lifetime on the frame, five years on the motors
Two different terms, because they are two different things. The steel frame, legs and levelling feet carry a limited lifetime warranty against physical damage from poor workmanship. The motors and electrical accessories are covered for five years. We provide and install the replacement parts.
What we cover, and what we do not
The cover starts on the day it is delivered and is personal to you as the purchaser, so it cannot be transferred if you sell the desk on.
On returns: you have 30 days from delivery to ask. A refund excludes the shipping you paid and a further 10% restocking fee, and the desk needs to go back in its original inner and outer packaging. Take store credit instead and you get the full amount back including shipping. The 30-day policy covers your first purchase of a product and does not apply to clearance stock. None of this limits your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
Once your desk ships it is 2 to 3 business days to metro Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, 3 to 5 to Adelaide, 5 to 7 to regional areas and 7 to 10 to other states and territories. Peak periods can add a little time, and current dispatch timing is shown on the product page.

Before you order
Measure the wall. Everything after that is finish.
Small is 120 by 70cm, Large is 150 by 75cm, and both use the same frame and the same motors. Get the size right and the rest is choosing a colour you like.
Quick questions, answered
Which size should I get?
Measure the space first. The Small is 120cm wide and 70cm deep and suits a nook, a spare room or an apartment. The Large is 150cm wide and 75cm deep and is the one to pick if you run two monitors or like room to spread out. Both lift to the same height and use the same frame and motors.
How high and how low does it go?
It lifts to 130cm. On the low end our own spec sheet is inconsistent, so we will not quote you a number we cannot stand behind. One buyer measured his with the top attached and published the figure in his review in reason 4. If a low sitting height is why you are shopping, measure your current desk and compare before you order.
What do the tops and frames cost?
Small starts at $895 and Large at $995 with a Maple, White or Walnut top and a White or Black frame. The Whitewash, Blackout and Forest tops have a faux plywood edge and add $50. A Forest Green frame adds $100. So the range across all 36 combinations runs $895 to $1,145.
Is it hard to put together?
It is a two-carton job: the frame at 33kg and the top at 16kg for the Small or 23kg for the Large. Seven steps, roughly 45 to 60 minutes, with instructions online, and the tools are included. If you would rather not, customers in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide can add our Sit Back and Relax service at checkout, which covers delivery, assembly and rubbish removal.
Is it noisy?
It runs dual motors. One reviewer told us it is quiet enough to change height during meetings, and another described the motor as quiet. It moves at 40mm per second, so a full sit-to-stand takes a few seconds.
What does the warranty cover?
The frame and structure carry a limited lifetime warranty against physical damage from poor workmanship. The motors and electrical accessories are covered for five years. That sits alongside the 30-day returns policy.
Do you do bulk pricing?
Yes, there are per-unit discounts for multiple desks, shown on the product page. For a larger or more complex order, email sales@recess.com.au and our team will sort it out directly.
